Adverbs of manner.

We are going to remember the adverbs of manner. Adejctives describe people, objects or animals and  adverbs of manner describe an action. They tella us how someone  does something.

She sings well.         She sings good 

He works slowly.      He works slow 

Form and spelling:

To form adverbs of manner, we add -ly to an adjective:

slow- slowly

loud-loudly

quick-quickly

polite-politely

For adjectives that end in -y, we change -y to -i then we add-ly.

happy-happily

noisy-noisily

These adverbs are irregular. We do not form them with -ly:

good- well

fast- fast

hard -hard. 

*Adverbs of manner come after the verb 

Peter runs fast.

*Fast & hard can be adjectives or adverbs. 

 Brian runs fast (adverb)

Brian is a fast runner.  (adjective)
